The NIPE (Newborn Infant Parasympathetic Evaluation) was designed to improve newborn’s comfort and stay in the NICU by measuring their parasympathetic tone, allowing the medical team to take better decisions to control nociception and improving their development.

The PTA index developed by MDoloris Technology was created to monitor animal comfort during surgery by measuring the parasympathetic tone of the ANS, helping to control nociception and anticipate analgesia needs.
ANI, NIPE & PTA values are measuring the relative parasympathetic activity of the patients
MDoloris Technology displays two indexes; the first is related to the parasympathetic activity (ANI, NIPE and PTA are the names of the indexes related to the PS activity), and the Energy, which represent the global ANS activity. The parasympathetic tone activity reflects the pain, the nociception perceived by the body, in a conscious or unconscious patient; whilst the energy level reflects the patient “physiological reactivity”, the reserves of biological signaling and mobilization of the patient’s body’s defenses (vital energy).
MDoloris Technology products are and will be available under several forms: a classic “medical monitoring devices”, a pluggable OEM or in a wearable format..
During general anesthesia, an ANI range between 50-70 relates to adequate analgesia, meaning that antinociception is adequate and that parasympathetic activity is mildly predominant over sympathetic activity.
When the ANI value falls down below 50, the occurrence of a hemodynamic response within the following 5 minutes is very likely. This information can be used to predict and avoid a hemodynamic response by increasing analgesia.

The closed loop
MDoloris Medical System is the only company to have presented (ESA Glasgow 2023) a successful automated closed loop in the 3rd pillar of anesthesia, namely analgesia (product not in the market yet). This closed loop controls and regulates opioid injected level to the patient undergoing surgery.
The MDoloris Technology closed loop system represents an inflection point in analgesia practice as it is a paradigm change in understanding and accepting the parasympathetic tone and the S/PS balance as biomarker to follow patient nociception during surgical stress. The closed loop system is going to be the ultimate proof of concept based on more than 20 years of research.
